Louise Meuwissen's wearable works are small sculptures to adorn the body. Distillations of her large-scale sculptural works, these palm-sized pieces are handmade with re-purposed vintage dress jewellery which has been collected, dissembled and hand-embroidered into intricate designs.
This collection, created especially for Gallerysmith, features hand-embroidered vintage pearls, mother-of-pearl, opalite and glass beads, with sterling silver findings. Because of the nature of the natural elements included in the works, no two pieces are exactly alike.
Meuwissen thinks of her adornments as spells for connection, for the wearer to cast anew each time they place their piece upon the body.
