Vicki Mason is a contemporary jewellery-maker based in Naarm (Melbourne). She believes that jewellery has the capacity to provoke a dialogue between a worn jewel, the wearer, and the viewer. In doing so, jewellery acts not only as a portable tool for the communication of ideas, but as a social object.
Mason sees plants as not merely decorative background fuzz in our lives but essential to our lives. Her fringed earrings are inspired by the bounteous stamens of Australia’s wattle, eucalyptus and bottlebrush flowers.
The hoop is oxidised metal (sterling silver) ie it has a surface treatment that blackens the surface of the metal.
