NOTES

Part of Sewards' SHIFTING CURRENTS series, these works have been inspired by her recent visits to Australia’s Ningaloo Reef and Lord Howe Island’s fringing reef. These trips, along with reef videography have provided direct reference for the creation for Ghosts in our Oceans. It is a four panel unique state piece created using non-toxic polymer gravure etching plates and beautiful viscous pigments, it was hand pulled on Sewards' wheeled etching press. Two panels incorporate a partial second layer of Japanese printmaking papers, chine-collé method.

Coral Reefs are a city that is home to marine life and invertebrates. They are often described as rainforests full of sounds and the hum of life. They spawn, they bloom, they flower and this work reflects my summer visit to the fringing reef around NSW’s Lord Howe Island a place that is a UNESCO World Heritage protected Marine Park, full of blue hues. Inspired by memory, it is a reminder of our care of duty to preserve these beautiful, vital and fragile ecosystems.
