ECHOES OF PLACE

Larissa Warren is a ceramicist who works from a studio on Tamborine Mountain in Queensland.

She digs local clays from the earth, embracing their raw and unpredictable qualities. These natural or ‘wild’ clays, sourced from various locations within the Gold Coast hinterland and Tamborine Mountain, are incorporated into her ceramic practice alongside refined porcelain, stains, and minerals.

The result is a dynamic interplay of colour, texture and form. The ceramic duos mimic the rhythm and undulations of their mate, their contours forming an inseparable bond.

One vessel in each pairing, made from vibrant coloured porcelain, captures Warren’s nostalgia for the 1980s and 1990s, while the other, a 'shadow' vessel crafted from local clay, connects to the region’s ancient geological history.

Together, these pairings entwine personal memory and the natural world, sharing the unique geology of the Gold Coast hinterland while exploring the intersection of time and place.
