RACHEL COAD SHORTLISTED FOR AUSTRALIA'S RICHEST PORTRAIT PRIZE

Rachel Coad is one of just 30 artists who has been shortlisted for Australia's richest award exhibition, the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize with this arresting portrait of Emma Booth. Painted in the muted tonal range for which Coad is well-known, this larger than life portrait of Emma against a stark white canvas squarely focuses attention on the subject. Coad has had her sights set on this award for a number of years, and on being selected this year, she announced, “This is my third attempt at capturing Emma . She has a no fuss, raw quality. When you meet her, it is immediately apparent why she is sought after for challenging roles.” The Doug Moran National Portrait Prize is now in its 31st year and invites entries of original works from Australian artists capturing Australians from all walks of life, whether a public figure or someone from the artist's own circle of experience. The finalists are exhibited at Juniper Hall in Paddington until December 1, 2019.
