Kirrily Hammond, The Gloaming, 2013

The Gloaming | Kirrily Hammond

JULY 25, 2013 - AUGUST 31, 2013

Gloaming is an old English term for twilight and combines a sense of poetic romance with a mysterious undercurrent. Kirrily Hammond’s intimate paintings depict Brunswick streetscapes in the early evening light, when buildings retain a glow from the fading afternoon sun, shadows coalesce and powerlines glimmer in flickering streetlights. Through delicate layering of oil paint on linen, Hammond renders quietly seductive images that reveal sublime encounters in suburban environments.
