Sedimentary Stories | Larissa Warren

September 3, 2021 - October 9, 2021

I like the hidden and forgotten stories that a place holds in its geology and its people. Often buried by time these stories are lost to shifts in generations and the changing use of land. But places contain layers of meaning always bound to history and that is what my work explores.

This series celebrates the unexpected. Digging into the lineage of female ceramic makers from Tamborine Mountain, where I also live and work, led to the rediscovery of forgotten local wild clays. Contrasting these with commercially produced clays reveals their unpredictable nature and, in many ways, also speaks to the nature of the women who used them. Tough, resilient and unique.
