With a View to Paradise, Linden Centre for Contemporary Art

Digitally inserting scenic wallpapers into large format photographs of Linden’s gallery spaces Valerie Sparks created fake architectural interiors that play with memory and create a fictitious architectural history. The stylized, utopian, hybrid, landscapes and environments represented in the French scenic wallpapers intend to indulge a Western scopic desire for exotica and travel and as such, represent a variety of historical, political and social discourses.
