ARTIST STATEMENT

When observations become form draws upon what ABC international affairs journalist Stan Grant refers to as the three founding realities that comprise Australia: First Nation People, the British tradition, and the richness of migration. A fourth thread evolved during the course of the exhibition, the Australian landscape.

All the works for the exhibition make use of the ‘existing’: something that already is within reality, from physical found objects, and lived experiences & observations, to historical memory, both national and personal. These fragments are collected and reconstructed into contemporary artefacts. When observations become form repurposes the past into visual poems that attempt to illuminate the present.
