Down the Rabbit Hole | Junko Go

Down the Rabbit Hole | Junko Go

July 25, 2019 - August 24, 2019

First published in 1865, Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland describes the adventures of a young girl who falls into a rabbit hole which brings her to a whole new world.

Among many imaginative fantasy fictions, Junko Go is particularly drawn to the hidden subtext of the tale, and ideas about duality; light and dark, frivolous and complex, meaningful and nonsensical. By allowing the rubbery logic of Carroll’s narrative to permeate and inform her work, Go uses the tale as a philosophical reflection on our being.

Like the anthropomorphic characters in Alice in Wonderland, that which at first glance appears a simple motif or a swatch of colour, reveals itself as a multi-faceted story, woven over time by layers of paint and intertwining imagery.
