Tanya Wales

From her studio in regional South Australia, Tanya Wales creates evocative, minimalist paintings that invite stillness and contemplation. Her practice sidesteps easy classification as abstraction, instead offering a unique visual vocabulary that engages with radiant fields of colour that stir deeply personal and intuitive responses.

Wales draws from a range of techniques, centred around pouring delicate translucent layers and soft brushwork, to construct surfaces that are restrained yet visually expansive. This interplay of tonal shifts generates a tension that hovers between simplicity and complexity. 

Wales’ practice grew from her professional background in Design Arts and Graphic Design. She refined her approach through training at the National Art School in 2007 and private tuition between 2008 and 2014. She has exhibited in Sydney and Melbourne through solo and group shows, as well as at major art fairs.
