Kirrily Hammond

Kirrily Hammond’s practice spans painting, printmaking and drawing. The urban environment has been a constant theme in her work, though references to a classical landscape tradition are clearly evident. Her images are not mere depictions of a specific location, but rather, subjective and psychological responses to her surroundings. Hammond’s works are developed at an intimate scale, holding sublime moments within controlled picture planes.

Born in Newcastle, NSW in 1975, Hammond studied at Canberra and Glasgow School of Art. She graduated with Honours in 1997, and completed a Masters degree at the University of Melbourne in 2003. She has been exhibiting since 1995 and her work is held in public collections including: Wollongong University; The Australian National University; LaTrobe Regional Gallery; Moreland City Council; and the Warrnambool Art Gallery collections.
