Sewards finalist in Australian Monoprint Prize

Lisa Sewards' stunning print She is Wilting has been selected as a finalist Australian Monoprint Prize at Firestation Print studio in Melbourne/Naarm April 23 - May 17, 2025.

She is Wilting, Unique state monoprint, plate size 60x44.5cm, paper 67x54.5cm

"My printmaking practice focuses on bodies of work with narratives of displacement.  This year I am researching displacement occurring in coral reefs and the unwavering human impact on our precious waters. The imagery of She is Wilting reflects bleached coral, which beneath waters resembles a striking and surreal sculpture in hues of bluish-white. This moment of beauty can be fleeting, as the coral’s brilliance lasts only for a few weeks before invasive macro algae takes over, causing corals to disintegrate and transform into a silent, algae-dominated floorbed. Through this work I have aimed to capture this transient beauty including the beginning of algae forming. The work has been crafted on a copper plate, where I engaged in a tactile dialogue with the material—using cloth, brushes, cotton buds, and my fingers each mark and gesture is an intimate interaction creating the life of my unique state monotype print." - Lisa Sewards, 2025
