EMA SHIN TAKES CENTRE STAGE AT CHAU CHUK WING MUSEUM

After a long-anticipated wait, it was with great excitement that Ema Shin's Hearts of Absent Women was unveiled at the Biennale of Sydney last week.

The 25th edition of the biennale was curated by Artistic Director, Hoor Al Qasimi, President and Director of Sharjah Art Foundation and curator of the UAE Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015 and Artistic Director of the sixth Aichi Triennale in 2025.

Al Qasimi's vision for the Biennale of Sydney was to elevate forgotten and marginalised voices, exploring the multifaceted cultures and perspectives that exist here and abroad, and to amplify the voices of Indigenous cultures from both within Australia and those of other countries.

Shin's magnificent work hangs in the Chau Chuk Wing Museum at the University of Sydney, and has been featured in Vault: Australasian Art and Design, Art Guide Australia and profiled across multiple print and digital media such as The Guardian, Sydney Morning Herald and designboom among others.
