EMA SHIN JOINS GALLERYSMITH

We are thrilled to welcome Ema Shin to Gallerysmith.

Ema Shin is a Melbourne based artist of Korean descent. She was born and grew up in Niigata, Japan where she studied printmaking and completed a Master of Fine Art Degree at Aichi University of the Arts.

Shin's interdisciplinary practice combines, embroidery, paper-mache, tapestry and printmaking and interrogates notions of femininity, sexuality, identity and womanhood. Her vivid works which are predominantly saturated with hues of red and pink, present anatomical features and forms of the female body. Over the span of her career, she has exhibited in a number of group and solo exhibitions in Australia and elsewhere. Her most recent series, Hearts of Absent Women, toured regional galleries in New South Wales was featured in our 15-year exhibition XV: PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE. We look forward to working with her in 2024 and beyond.
