ARTWORKS EXHIBITIONS CV

Through an active engagement with the natural world, Emma Walker’s works are meditations on the environment. Her visual language refers to the micro and macro patterns and rhythms that occur in nature such as the magical unfurling of fresh tropical new growth or the etched patterns left by erosion on windswept shores. In response to these observations, Walker shapes and manipulates board to create organic forms and uneven surfaces. By carving out trails, digging, scratching, binding and whittling surface, she infuses her works with the instinctive actions of insects, birds and mammals; mimicking the actions which give shape to the environment around us.

By working in this way, Walker occupies an undefined space in contemporary art bridging aspects of painting, relief sculpture and installation into single works.

Emma Walker holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the National Art School in Sydney and has been exhibiting for thirty years. She has been a finalist in the Paddington Art Prize on four occasions and was awarded the prestigious Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award in 2014. Walker has held numerous exhibitions in both Sydney and Melbourne and featured in a residency (followed by a solo exhibition) at Port Macquarie’s Glasshouse Gallery in 2019. Her work features in several major public and corporate collections including Macquarie Bank Collection, Tamworth Regional Gallery, Bathurst Regional Gallery, Grafton Regional Gallery, Bond University Collection, Tweed Regional Gallery, Lismore Regional Gallery, Gold Coast Regional Gallery and The Australia Club.
