Tragedy’s Cathedral: New Landscapes | Kirstin Berg

APRIL 30, 2016 - MAY 21, 2016

Kirstin Berg is fascinated by random and often brutal forces that occur in nature and how these forces mirror our psychological and physical experience. Her work in Tragedy’s Cathedral: New Landscapes is powered by conflicting elements of drama, beauty, and foreboding in an attempt to unmask universal emotional states that encircle life and death.

This exhibition comprises a number of monumental paper-based assemblages and a series of sculptural cathedra which have been fashioned from found objects and painted bush debris.

Berg’s work has been collected by the National Gallery of Victoria, Parliament House Art Collection (Canberra), Artbank, and she is represented in a number of private collections within Australia, Europe and America. She currently lives and works between Melbourne and Berlin.
