Blink | Sam Michelle
June 4 - July 10
With a soft earthy palette and more complex compositions, Sam Michelle’s Blink collection explores the elusive concept of time; how years occur in real time yet pass in an instant, leaving but a trace of a lived experience. Michelle’s works take objects as metaphor to capture seminal stages in life’s journey, with bags, shapes and mementos representing key transitions such as growing up, moving on, giving away. As a keen collector of Australian designed ceramics and textiles, Sam’s collection forms the basis of personal and shared narratives about childhood, growth and independence. It is a body of work which will have meaning for the nurturer, reminding us of the importance of living in the moment.
Sam says, “In a Blink, we no longer visit playgrounds, play dress ups, hold hands, sword fight and piggy back. I am forever packing away their clothes and toys in bags and closing off childhood chapters.”
