For more than 35 years, Dadang Christanto’s painting practice has addressed political injustice and crimes against humanity in contemporary history. His work lays bare the trauma, loss of life, and suffering experienced by those who are targeted for their religious beliefs, political alliances and ethnicity.
His current exhibition ARCHIVE unapologetically documents incidents which occurred in 1965-66 during Indonesia’s anti-communist purges. It is an extension of 2015 series titled Genocide which marked 50 years since the Indonesian atrocities began.
