Adam Norton’s Conquest on ABC TV
Conquest of Space: Science Fiction & Contemporary Art examines the work of Australian artists who explore science-fiction themes and concepts through painting, drawing, sculpture, video and installations. In this 30 minute program, Andrew Frost discusses examples of work by more than a dozen artists and featuring interviews with some of Australian art’s leading practitioners including Adam Norton.

Dadang Christanto unveils installation in Central Java
In 2006 an environmental disaster of epic proportions began to engulf parts of Indonesia. Mud (either the consequence of low level volcanic eruptions or the drilling activities of a nearby gas plant) has crept across large tracts of Central Java and buried twelve villages in its path. On May 31, 2014, to mark the eight year anniversary of this ongoing catastrophe,
Dadang Christanto installed 101 larger than life sculptures atop the mud fields.
Melbourne Art Fair 14
Gallerysmith is delighted to announce that we will be exhibiting three artists at Melbourne Art Fair in August:
Kirstin Berg, Lucas Grogan and
Jennifer Goodman. Berg will unveil a new body of paper assemblages while Grogan will be showing a series of large kinetic installations. Jennifer Goodman will be represented by two works from her current series.
State Library of Victoria acquires Paula do Prado
A work titled Myth Re-altered from
Paula do Prado‘s current exhibition
Odalisque, has been acquired by the
State Library of Victoria. And fans of do Prado can read more about her practice in the current issue of Artist Profile magazine. The six page feature includes Paula’s responses to a series of interview questions, photos of her Sydney studio along with images of early and current works. Paula’s exhibition,
Odalisque, is currently on at Gallerysmith until July 19.

Kahan wins 2014 Stanthorpe Art Award
CONGRATULATIONS to
Dena Kahan whose painting Large Glass Garden (above) was selected as the winning entry in the 2014 Stanthorpe Art Festival Prize in Queensland. This year the prize was judged by Angela Goddard, curator at QAGOMA. Angela described Dena’s winning work as “
so delicately painted, with a precision and an obviously skilled draughtsmanship underpinning the whole composition.” Read Dena’s acceptance speech and Angela’s other comments here.
